Railfans are sometimes referred to as “foamers.” It comes from the excitement they show when some unusual bit of equipment comes through, and all the train fanatics come out, jabber, and take pictures. It’s generally considered a little insulting, but I embrace it. Since the advent of “precision railroading,” much of the excitement has evaporated. I missed the runs this pair of Canadian Pacific visitors made to New Bern last week, but I did manage to catch them both June 18 and 19 in Selma NC. I foamed big time.
